Before registering a business name, you should perform the following checks:
- Check to see if the name is available for use using ASIC’s business name availability search or our search functionality;
- Verify that the name isn’t identical or similar to a registered trademark using the IP Australia trade mark search;
- If you intend to register a domain name alongside your business name, ensure the availability of your desired domain at Domain Administration; and
- Confirm that you have a valid ABN (Australian Business Number). You can register for an ABN using the Australian Government’s Business Registration
After confirming the availability of your business name, you will need to register it using the Business Registration Service or ASIC Connect.
